About Lisa

Lisa Skalski, Owner and Trainer, Tezmaral Arabians, has been breeding, raising, and training Arabians and Half-Arabians for over 30 years. Through this experience, she has come to understand the most effective approach in training this wonderful breed.  The intelligence of the Arabian horse allows her training methodology to be easily understood, giving the horse the confidence with that understanding.  Consistency of technique allows the animal to find his comfort zone and perform at his athletic best.

Tezmaral Arabians is located in Argyle, Texas, 25 minutes north of DFW International Airport.  The Skalski family has bred, owned, and shown Arabian and Half-Arabian horses from this location since 1975.

Lisa has been involved with the Arabian breed as a junior exhibitor, amateur, and now a professional, and has devoted her career to the promotion of the Arabian horse.  She wanted to ride before she could even walk, and started with Saddlebreds in the late 1960s in Orlando, FL and then in Houston, TX. She was introduced to the Half-Arabian in 1970, and it was love at first ride.  She found she could do so much more with an Arabian – “the versatile breed”.

Her family became involved with breeding, and in 1980 purchased the pure Polish stallion Essquire (*El Paso x New Fashion x *Bask) from Paul and Dody Wood of Colonial Wood Arabians.  Essquire and his wonderful bloodline served as the breeding foundation at Tezmaral Arabians for the next 25 years.  Essquire left us at the age of 32 years old but his legacy lives on through the success of his get and grand-get on the race track, in the show ring, and on the endurance trail.  Strong athleticism, willing temperaments, and a wonderful work ethic are the hallmark of his descendants through several generations.  It is because of this work ethic that Lisa came to understand the most effective approach in training this wonderful breed.

Lisa currently participates in many disciplines, including Halter, Country English Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, Western Pleasure, English Show Hack, Mounted Native Costume, and more.  She has trained horses and riders of all ages to Regional and National honors.  Lisa is also an Arabian “R” National/Regional judge and a National Show Horse “R” judge and has adjudicated both Canadian and US Nationals.  She is currently serving as Past President of the North Texas Arabian Horse Club. When away from the show barn, she competes in 50 and 100 mile endurance events.
